Our Program

Each week in Music Together® Mixed-Age Classes at Elevate Music Together, babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and the grownups who love them gather for 45 minutes of fun-filled family music time. Your teacher will lead you and the other families in music activities ranging from lullabies to full-on jam sessions (with child-friendly instruments, of course). It’s so much fun you won’t realize how much learning is taking place!

You’ll take home the award-winning music used in class, along with an illustrated songbook and other resources. As you discover new ways to play with music all week long, you’ll be supporting your child’s music-learning and overall development—even if you don’t think of yourself as a great singer or dancer.

Why Mixed Ages?

Child development researchers discovered that grouping children of different ages in one class encourages natural, family-style learning, so Music Together developed the Mixed-Age Music Class. In this class, everyone participates at their own levels: babies vocalize, listen, and observe; toddlers play and experiment; and preschoolers build confidence as they emerge as classroom leaders. Grownups are happy because everyone can come to class together.

Research. Music Together was first offered to the public in 1987 and pioneered the concept of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum. Today classes are offered all over the world including a lab school in Princeton, New Jersey. Ongoing research at the lab school, as well as the research of others, continually informs Music Together’s work on program content and development, varied applications of the program, and teacher training. Everything we do in class has an educational purpose.

In class, sing, dance, and have fun! You might be surprised to hear that you are your child’s most important music teacher right now—and it doesn’t matter whether you think of yourself a great singer or dancer. Young children develop dispositions for certain behaviors, including learning to love music, by observing and imitating their loved ones. Simply by participating enthusiastically during class and playing with the ideas at home, you’ll give your children the modeling they need to learn to love to make music.

At Music Together, children are never required to sit in the circle or expected to conform to an adult’s idea of participation. We know that children learn differently from adults. They learn instinctively and constantly, through observation, interactions with adults and older children, and through imitation, play, and, especially, movement. One hallmark of Music Together is the insight that children will naturally develop music ability simply when they are immersed in a community of families all making music.

Children’s responses depend on their most dominant learning style and temperament as well as their age and developmental level. Some might follow the teacher right away. Many will simply want to watch and absorb, particularly in the first few weeks of class. Some might crawl or toddle around; others are stimulated by the music and respond more actively, running, jumping, or dancing. All are perfectly natural responses to the new, musically rich environment. Throughout the semester, your teacher will help you tune in to how your child learns best so you can support their music development in class and at home. Feel free to ask if you have questions!

Each class has between 6 and 12 registered children, plus their caregiver(s).

Mixed-Age Family classes, and Rhtyhm Kids® are 45-minutes. All classes meet once a week.

We offer a 9-week Fall, Winter and Spring semester, and a 6-week summer session.
No tuition refunds are given after classes begin. Families are responsible for class attendance. An administrative fee of $50.00 will be deducted upon cancellations occurring prior to the start of the semester

We offer two make-up classes per family during each session. Makeups must be used within the same session and cannot be transferred to another semester.

Current families can schedule make-ups online by logging in on our website. Choose ‘Schedule Make-Up Class’ from the Enrolled Families menu and you’ll see a variety of options. You can schedule makeups by day, location, teacher, etc. Once you’ve scheduled your makeup you will receive a confirmation email.

Requests for class changes must be initiated within the first three weeks of the semester. Depending on class availability, changes are made at the discretion of the center director and teachers involved. Changes are not made after the third week of the semester.

Just found us? No worries! Although it is best to join at the beginning of the session, Elevate Music Together welcomes families at any point during the semester with pro-rated tuition.

Our policy is that the reduced rate is for siblings only. Meaning, grown-ups may register and bring more than one child to class–we’re a family music making program! The reduced price is not meant for cousins of an enrolled child, friends of an enrolled child or others. Friends and additional family members (other than a parent with more than one child) are encouraged to enroll on their own account. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Please feel comfortable to nurse or bottle-feed your child in class, but we ask that you not bring food or drink into classrooms.

Consistency is important for your child’s learning, so we ask that you try to settle into your class in the first few weeks of the semester as the integral musical community is beginning to form between families and your teacher. However, we understand that especially with young children, schedules change and nap times shift, etc. Therefore, we will do our best to accommodate your schedule and find a class that works for you and your child subject to availability. Contact us via phone at (425) 312-3892 or send us an email to discuss your situation.

Day off school/preschool for your older child? We can happily accommodate a visiting sibling on occasion! Older siblings of registered students may visit two times per term. Please notify us that you will be bringing your older child.

A different song collection is used each semester –there are nine different song collections- so when you re-register, you can look forward to expanding your repertoire with a variety of new songs and chants. The curriculum is designed so that families can continue classes for three years before revisiting a song collection. In three years, you and your child will learn over 250 songs! If you do continue in the program beyond three years (and we hope you will), your child will experience his or her first song collections in a brand new way.

Yes! Gift certificates toward classes can be purchased at any time. They make fabulous baby shower, birthday, or holiday gifts. Puchase one here!

Two adults per family per class, please. Please feel free to rotate who brings your child on a given week or to invite special adults along periodically. (Visiting grandparents or friends.)
